US-based companies like SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are planning initial public offerings (IPOs) that have attracted global attention. However, Indian retail investors face significant challenges in securing allocations in these IPOs. The primary reason is that these companies predominantly allocate shares to institutional investors rather than retail participants. Consequently, the chances of Indian individual investors receiving allotments in these IPOs are minimal. This situation highlights the limited access Indian retail investors have to certain high-profile international IPOs, emphasizing the institutional nature of share distribution in such offerings. Retail investors rarely get IPO allocations, as US companies allot shares largely to institutions. The chance of Indians getting allotment is almost nil.
